Maintenance & Cleaning: Ownership tips for your Heat PumpUpdated 9 days ago

Regular maintenance is the secret to keeping your FibroPool heat pump running efficient, quiet, and long-lasting. A well maintained unit means better heat pull, fewer errors, and lower bills. Most care is simple and you can easily do it yourself (10-30 min monthly/seasonally), but a professional may be needed for deeper issues (like refrigerant). Make sure that power is off at the breaker before doing any work.

Why It MattersDirty coils block air, dropping efficiency 20-30%; debris causes overheating and errors. A clean unit = happy pump.

Routine Maintenance Schedule

  • Weekly: Glance for debris/leaves around the unit.

  • Monthly (in season): Clean evaporator fins/coils.

  • Seasonal: Full clean before or after use; check connections.

  • Yearly: Consider a pro inspection (refrigerant, electrical).

Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide

  1. Power Off & Safety: Turn off the unit, then cut power at the breaker. Wait 5 min for the fan to stop.

    • Why? Prevents shocks or potential injury.

  2. Clear Debris: Remove any leaves, grass, or debris from top or sides (depending on fan location). Use a soft brush or hands.

  1. Clean Evaporator Fins/Coils: Use a gentle low-pressure hose to clean from the inside out. Don't use high-pressure, as it could bend the fins, and don't spray into the unit, as it just pushes the dirt and debris inside (which could lead to issues).

    • Annually: Clean the coils by using “foaming air conditioner coil cleaner” (available at hardware stores).

      • Why? Dirt blocks heat exchange. Clean = full BTU output.

    • Model Notes: For Fixed-speed units, the fan and coils can be accessed on the sides; for vertical (inverter) units, the fan and coils are accessed on top.

  1. Wipe Exterior Cabinet: Use a soft cloth with mild soap, the gently rinse.

  1. Check Airflow Clearance: Ensure 36" front, 12-18" sides/back (60" overhead for inverters).

  1. Inspect Pressure Gauge & ConnectionsCheck for any leaks in your piping; ensure the gauge is normal when running.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use a cover on the heat pump during the off-season to reduce debris.

  • Keep the pool chemistry balanced as harsh levels will corrode the unit faster.

  • Low humidity? Expect more dust, clean regularly as needed.

When to Contact a Pro: Bent fins or fan blades, unusual noise, or refrigerant issues. Tampering in these cases could void the warranty. Contact our support team if you run into any of these issues.
